CS Undergraduate Advising

As advisors, we strive to create and foster a positive working relationship with each student. Through this collaboration we encourage students to take a leadership role in their educational and career goals.

While academic advising is available to assist a student in their particular program of study, it is the student's responsibility to read the online catalog, track academic progress, seek advising, and meet all requirements for the completion of the degree as stated in the catalog.

The mission of the Computer Science Academic Services team is to empower students to be active and responsible owners of their education.

Our team aims to accomplish this in the following ways:

- create a safe space of acceptance, belonging, and empathy for every student

-  advise, advocate, and educate students on program requirements, policies, opportunities, and navigating the institution

-  act as partners throughout a student's academic journey

A Note About Starting Math Level and Timeline to Graduation

Many students worry that starting at a lower level of Math will cause them to be "behind" or unable to graduate "on time". This is a misconception. It is not recommended that students attempt to cram or otherwise stress in order to achieve a higher starting math placement. Doing so may actually lead to students being underprepared for the math course they take and/or other classes they enroll in based on meeting different math minimums.
Advisors are prepared to assist students in

There are many variables that impact a student’s schedule including transfer credit, math, English, and 2nd language placement, class offerings each semester, second majors and/or minors, intended graduation timelines, internships/research work, summer enrollment, and/or study abroad plans. While advisors generally can build four-year graduation timelines regardless of your starting Math level, those schedules may not be the best fit for the student's needs or goals.

To better understand what your individual plan might look like, please speak with your academic advisor. The goal is to make the plan that works best for you, allowing you to fully absorb course material and be effectively prepared as you move forward in each step of your education.
