Paper published at top bioinformatics conference ISMB 2020
PhD student Spencer Krieger and his PhD advisor Prof. John Kececioglu had a paper published in July at the top conference in bioinformatics and computational biology, ISMB 2020. The paper (S. Krieger and J. Kececioglu, "Boosting the accuracy of protein secondary structure prediction through nearest neighbor search and method hybridization," Proceedings of the 28th ISCB Conference on Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB), Bioinformatics 36, i317-i325, July 2020) presents a new approach to protein secondary structure prediction that is now the most accurate method currently available. Spencer gave a presentation on this paper at both the main ISMB conference, and the Student Council Symposium portion of the conference. His student symposium presentation won the award for Best Student Talk.
