Dr. Injung Kim will be joining the Department of Computer Science faculty in fall 2024. We asked Dr. Kim to answer our "Getting to know you" questions. Responses below. 

Educational background/short bio:
I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh and M.S. from Columbia University. My teaching experience includes introductory computer programming courses for undergraduate students and cloud computing architecture for industry professionals. Additionally, I authored the book "Build Your Cloud Environment on the KT ucloud biz." My industry background encompasses roles at Microsoft, Oracle, Korea Telecom, and AhnLab, where I contributed to cloud computing, anti-hacking, and mobile application development.

Research interests:
My research interests are human computing interaction, security and privacy, sensing IoT, cloud computing, and smart cities. My most recent work focuses on understanding  the privacy perceptions and expectations of college students on smart campuses.

Why did you apply to join the University of Arizona Department of Computer Science?
The University of Arizona has one of the premier Computer Science departments, renowned for its exceptional students and faculty. Engaging with such a vibrant and diverse community will fuel my passion for teaching. I am eager to contribute by teaching courses in cloud computing, web programming, HCI, cybersecurity, and more, drawing upon my extensive research and industry experience.

What made you interested in pursuing a career in higher education/the academy?
My passion lies in engaging with students to expand their knowledge and understanding. I am driven by the desire to provide hands-on experience with the latest technologies, given the rapid evolution within the computing science field.

What are you looking forward to most in coming to UA?
I look forward to teaching interesting courses with recent technology and mentoring diverse students. Having a positive impact on students' academic and personal growth brings me immense satisfaction. I eagerly anticipate joining the warm and sunny community of UA.

Any other information you would like students, staff, faculty, alumni, etc. to know about you. 
I like biking, hiking, and playing tennis. I plan to explore the surrounding mountains visible from UA. Additionally, I believe my daughter will enjoy Tucson's sunny climate and unique desert flora, including the iconic cacti.
