Kapilan Balagopalan

Biography

I grew up in a beautiful village in the North most tip of my island nation Sri Lanka. From my childhood I was very interested in mathematics and astronomy. I got my bachelors degree from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering. My areas of interests are Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence. Complexity of mathematics used in these disciplines attracted me to it. Currently my research is on Bandit based recommendation algorithms under the supervision of Dr.Kwang-Sung Jun. 
I like playing football, Swimming and watching movies whenever I am free.

Bandit Algorithms, Recommendation Algorithms, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

What long-term project do you want to work on?

Applying machine learning and artificial intelligence in human decision making.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I like the small rewards our brain gives ourselves when we break down the problems. I also like solitude, sense of purpose, worth of contribution and exploring our own potential during my work.

What are your career goals?

Immediate Goal in Successful and Satisfactory completion of PhD.
